Commentary
This is a tape deck that can record and play back the X series 4 track No. 10 reel back and forth.
It is a reciprocating recording and playback machine of Reel 10, so it can record 3 hours at
19cm/s and 6 hours at 9.5 cm speed.
A dual capstan system is adopted for the mechanism part.
This system has a structure in which two sets of capstan and pinch rollers sandwich the tape
and drive it, thereby greatly reducing modulation noise. In addition, since tape tension is given
by the slight rotational difference between capstan and capstan, even minute tape vibrations
(flutter components) that do not appear in the catalog data are shielded.
In addition, due to the symmetrical design, even in reverse operation, the same conditions as
in forward operation are obtained, and uniform tape travel is achieved in both directions.
A magne-float type flywheel is adopted.
It is designed so that there is no play in the axial direction of the capstan by pressing it against
the bearing using the repulsion of the magnet, thereby realizing stable rotation of the flywheel.
The head section is composed of 6 heads, and each head for erasing, recording and playback
is independent of each other.
A high-hardness Permalloy head is used for the head, and an erasing head, which does not
affect the sound quality, is placed outside the closed loop to shorten the tape span.
The amplifier circuit is designed with dedicated adjustment circuits for both the recording and
reproducing heads to reduce the difference in sound quality between forward and reverse.
You can set timer recording in either direction by setting a timer switch in the center of the
front panel and a commercially available audio timer.Binaural microphones
Equipped with a 1-3/2-4 track selection queue mechanism, you can queue the necessary
songs without switching tapes.
When the driving indicator lamp for either the forward (1-3 track) or reverse (2-4 track) track is
on, queuing can be used to start the track.
Equipped with a playback pause mechanism.
If you press the pause button after getting a rough idea with queuing, the tape touches the
head, and you can turn the reel with both hands to get an accurate cue.
Uses an electromagnetic brake.
Equipped with a motion sensing mechanism, if you press the play button directly from the
quick turn, the electromagnetic brake acts on the reel, it stops softly and moves to play action
instantly.
When the Oatley bar knob is set and the counter is set to 0000 and the tape is played back, it
can be automatically reversed from the reverse direction to the forward direction at that position.
Only by combining this function with the Oatley bar, you can play it endlessly all day.
Equipped with Rec Mute function.
It is equipped with a real-time pause function that makes it easy to rise from a recorded
pause.
Microphone and line mixing is possible.
With a guide roller mounted, smooth running characteristics are achieved by absorbing
uneven running of the tape.
Equipped with reel size selector, suitable tape tension can be obtained according to the reel
size.
Equipped with a pitch control function that works for both recording and playback.
Equipped with an L/R linked recording mode switch.
Equipped with independent bias and equalizer switching functions.
Equipped with a large VU meter.
All-DC motor configuration is adopted.
Dbx system can be connected. By connecting the dbx unit DX-2A (sold separately), auditory hissing can be reduced.
