explanation
A 2-way floor-type speaker system that uses a backloading CW horn for high efficiency
and transients.
The
low frequency is equipped with a 20cm cone-shaped woofer.
The diaphragm of this woofer is the hardest and lightest of the Hollywood cones in the
United States, and it has a magnet with a diameter of 120mm to increase braking power.
In addition, the frame is die-cast aluminum.
The high frequency is equipped with a 6cm cone-shaped tweeter. Like the
woofer, it uses a Hohlett cone, and uses carbide duralumin treated with special vapor
deposition on the center cap to obtain high efficiency and good transient highs.
The CW of the back-loading CW horn stands for Constant Width, which means a horn with
a constant width and only a wide range of shapes. In the FB-5, the back-loading CW horn is
folded and combined into a floor-type enclosure. In this format, horn load (resistance control)
is applied only to the low frequencies. For this reason, the high frequencies are cut by the
equivalent mass of the speaker and the back chamber, and only the bass is emitted from the
horn, and the further frequencies are emitted directly from the front of the speaker.
The FB-5 horn adopts Victor's unique shape determined by thorough computer analysis,
and it plays from around 45Hz to around 150Hz, and attenuates beyond that. In addition, the
cut-off frequency on the low frequency side is 25Hz. In addition, since the total length of the
horn is 1.8 meters, the sound emitted from the horn is about 5 ms behind the direct radiated
sound. The upper board that forms the curved surface of the
enclosure structure is made of thermoformed plywood, and the newly developed softwood
high-density chipboard is used except for the curved surface. This chipboard is mainly made
of Kara pine and is about 40% heavier than conventional chipboard.
